Compiler

A Compiler is a program for translating code from one language into another. In many cases, the first language is a high-level Programming Language and the second is a processor-specific machine language. However, there are other possibilities such as Java, which is compiled into machine-independent byte code (which is then executed by a JVM), or yacc, which generates Programming Language code from a Grammar.
