Abstract

The course so far has covered the most important facets of Web-based technologies today. For the following three weeks, the course will consist of coached project group meetings, which are intended to apply the basic knowledge to a more challenging scenario. In the last of the three weeks, the teams present their scenarios along with their implementation plans. The scenario should take at least two of the course's topics and put them into practical use.

Course Plan

• All relevant subjects have been discussed

• Find team members and start a project
• Build a Web-based service
• Build a service based on Web-based services

Technologies

• Web foundations (HTTP content negotiation)
• PHP for very simple integration tasks
• XML for structured data interchange
• SOAP and WSDL for basic Web Services
• WS-* for additional Web Service functionalities
• BPEL for orchestrating services

Team Time

• Teams should ideally have 3 members
• Possible projects that already have been mentioned
  • Flickr integration into an interactive service
  • investigating how API design guidelines apply to Web-based services
  • collecting and maintaining bibliographical information at UCB
