ADT (Abstract Data Type)

An ADT is a formally specified set of values and associated operations, independent from any particular implementation. ADTs are one of the foundations of OO, because they formalize the notion of "information hiding" or "encapsulation", which hides the implementation of an ADT (i.e., a class) behind its interface.
